Combivent Inhaler (Ipratropium Bromide / Salbutamol Sulphate) is given to patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and to asthma sufferers, to prevent bronchospasm. It contains salbutamol (also known as albuterol) and ipratropium bromide.
The active ingredient salbutamol works by helping the muscles in the airways to relax, thereby opening up the airways. Ipratropium bromide helps to block the muscarinic receptors. These receptors can cause the airways to contract. The combined effect of these ingredients can help to make breathing easier for patients suffering from chronic bronchitis.
